The download page says "OS X 10.8 or later", but other pages said 10.7. Say 10.8 everywhere. Turns out Go doesn't even compile on OS X 10.7 (details in bug) and we only run builders for OS X 10.8+, which is likely why 10.7 regressed. Until recently we only had OS X 10.10 builders, even. We could run 10.7 builders, but there's basically no reason to do so, especially with 10.12 coming out imminently. Binary Distribution Notes
If you have just untarred a binary Go distribution, you need to set the environment variable $GOROOT to the full path of the go directory (the one containing this file). You can omit the variable if you unpack it into /usr/local/go, or if you rebuild from sources by running all.bash (see doc/install-source.html). You should also add the Go binary directory $GOROOT/bin to your shell's path.
For example, if you extracted the tar file into $HOME/go, you might put the following in your .profile:
export GOROOT=$HOME/go
export PATH=$PATH:$GOROOT/bin
