Nothing cares about it.

I did this after looking at the memprof output, but it helps performance a bit:

LinkCmdGo   0.44 ± 3%   0.43 ± 3%  -2.20%   (p=0.000 n=94+90)
LinkJuju    3.98 ± 5%   3.94 ± 5%  -1.19%  (p=0.000 n=100+91)

As well as MaxRSS (i.e. what /usr/bin/time -f '%M' prints):

name       old MaxRSS  new MaxRSS  delta
LinkCmdGo   130k ± 0%   120k ± 3%  -7.79%   (p=0.000 n=79+90)
LinkJuju    862k ± 6%   827k ± 8%  -4.01%  (p=0.000 n=100+99)

Binary Distribution Notes

If you have just untarred a binary Go distribution, you need to set the environment variable $GOROOT to the full path of the go directory (the one containing this file). You can omit the variable if you unpack it into /usr/local/go, or if you rebuild from sources by running all.bash (see doc/install-source.html). You should also add the Go binary directory $GOROOT/bin to your shell's path.

For example, if you extracted the tar file into $HOME/go, you might put the following in your .profile:

export GOROOT=$HOME/go
export PATH=$PATH:$GOROOT/bin
