Decompose breaks compound objects up into pieces that can be operated on by the target architecture. The decompose pass only does phi ops, the rest is done by the rewrite rules in generic.rules. Compound objects include strings,slices,interfaces,structs,arrays. Arrays aren't decomposed because of indexing (we could support constant indexes, but dynamic indexes can't be handled using SSA). Structs will come in a subsequent CL. TODO: after this pass we have lost the association between, e.g., a string's pointer and its size. It would be nice if we could keep that information around for debugging info somehow. Binary Distribution Notes
If you have just untarred a binary Go distribution, you need to set the environment variable $GOROOT to the full path of the go directory (the one containing this file). You can omit the variable if you unpack it into /usr/local/go, or if you rebuild from sources by running all.bash (see doc/install-source.html). You should also add the Go binary directory $GOROOT/bin to your shell's path.
For example, if you extracted the tar file into $HOME/go, you might put the following in your .profile:
export GOROOT=$HOME/go
export PATH=$PATH:$GOROOT/bin
